COVID-19 Update for Monday, March 16th

Chaffee County Public Health is reporting that as of this morning there continues to be 0 positive cases of COVID-19 in Chaffee County. 

Visited Eagle, Summit, Pitkin, or Gunnison Counties?

Due to spread of the coronavirus in a number of mountain resort communities, the Colorado Department of Health strongly recommends that anyone who lives in or has visited Eagle, Summit, Pitkin, or Gunnison counties in the past week minimize all contact with other people, whether or not they are experiencing symptoms. 

To best protect public health, the Colorado Department of Health is recommending that Coloradans follow the Center for Disease Control Prevention guidance released today.  The CDC recommends that for the next eight weeks, organizers cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more.  

Schools Are Closed

Salida and Buena Vista schools have cancelled classes starting today.  Classes are set to resume on Monday, March 30th.

Salida and Buena Vista schools have both made arrangements to provide breakfast and lunch during the extended Spring Break. 

  • Salida will distribute the meals through the Boys and Girls Club.  
  • Buena Vista will distribute the meals from 11 am to 1 pm at Avery Parsons Elementary.  Drive through the drop off circle and people will be waiting outside to deliver the bag to the car. 

Colorado Mountain College has closed all of their campuses. 

Local Governments Declare Emergency Proclamations

Local governments have declared Local Disaster Emergency proclamations to assist in responding to and recovering from an emergency event. 

The City of Salida has moved to Tier III of their action plan.  Tier III relates to both internal and external workings of the City.  The city encourages all persons wanting to do business with the city to utilize digital or telephone devices to access the city’s website, pay bill online or over the phone, and to refrain from contact distances of less than six feet from city personnel. 

Salida Mayor P.T. Wood said, “It is very important that the community look to social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19.  We are striving to remain open to the conduct the people’s business.”

The Town of Buena Vista has closed Town Hall, the Community Center, Police Department, Fire Department, and Public Works buildings to the public through at least March 30th. 

  • Chaffee County buildings will be closed to the public until further notice. 
  • All county buildings will be minimally staffed with no public access.  The public is asked to conduct business online, by email, or by phone. 
  • Building inspections and Assessor sales and field reviews will continue. 
  • All emergency services will continue. 

Be prepared for modified conditions at not only government buildings but many businesses have modified their operations as well. 

More Updates

High Country Bank has closed their lobbies to the public but all drive-through facilities will be open regular hours. 

Also, many businesses in the area remain open, utilizing CDC recommended procedures for cleaning and disinfecting.
