Winter Weather Advisory Issued Through Thursday, February 24th

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 pm today, February 21st, through 11 am Thursday, February 24th.

The Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Central Chaffee County Below 9,000 Feet, Saguache County West of Continental Divide Below 10,000 Feet, Upper Rio Grande Valley/Eastern San Juan Mountains Below 10,000 Feet, and the San Luis Valley.

Snow expected with total snow accumulations of 2 to 12 inches. Winds could gust up to 50 mph at times.

The heaviest snow will be along the west-facing slopes of the higher terrain, both over the lower elevations of Chaffee County and the west-facing slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the San Luis Valley, which could see localized snowfall amounts exceeding 12 inches.

Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Slow down and use caution while traveling.
