Coronavirus Stimulus: It Isn’t a Loan

If you have heard or seen the rumor online claiming that you must repay the relief checks from the government, they are not true.

The federal government began issuing one-time payments this week.  Most adults who earned up to $75,000 will see a $1,200 payout.  Parents will also get payments of $500 per child.

In recent days, social media posts have falsely claimed there’s a catch to this money—that you will eventually have to pay it back.

The Internal Revenue Department has confirmed to the Associated Press that households will not have to pay back the money in next year’s tax filing.
