Salida cross country gets going as 2020 practices begin

The Salida boys and girls cross country team gathered in a circle early on Wednesday morning as they listened into the masked face of Coach Kenny Wilcox as he explained what the 2020 season would entail.

After that, a short run, some core work, and a quick game of ultimate frisbee to wrap up the morning.

About 16 kids arrived to the first practice, but Wilcox says he feels confident that number should come close to doubling by the time the season begins. Particularly as student athletes from other postponed sports begin to become aware of practices.

Senior Fern Clark will be leading a girls team which finished in the top 10 last year and is returning several faces from that crew.

Clark says this year, she is excited about what they could do, but for the time being, is just wanting to focus on improving the team dynamic as a a second year captain for the Spartans on the course.

The first meet of the year is still waiting to be decided on, but Salida cross country is rearing to go as the 2020 season begins.
