New season and a new coach for Salida Spartan golf as 2020 begins

The Salida Spartan boys golf team is under a new coach as Mike Coscarella took over the helm on Monday afternoon at 1 pm.

The Salida golf team was under the instruction of Barry Spence, but due to circumstances, he was not going to be able to commit to the job this year.

After the listing opened up, Coscarella interviewed for the job and found out he had been named the new coach three days before boarding a plane from Florida to head back to the mountains.

The team showed up with 8 members this year, and it is a young team. Knowing that, Coscarella says he is really just focused on work ethic and improvement from the team, and not really focusing too much on early results.

Coscarella also says he was in contact with Spence before he came out, and is going to work with him to try to keep the program as similar early on to last year as possible.

Salida will participate in their first tournament on August 14th in Alamosa at Cattails.
