The Colorado State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies have launched a DUI enforcement period as part of “The Heat Is On” campaign for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, running through Monday.

Drivers can expect to see saturation patrols, sobriety checkpoints, and an increased law enforcement presence across the region, all aimed at identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road.

The campaign comes as the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) reports that July 2024 had the highest number of impaired-related traffic fatalities of any month this year, with 28 deaths statewide.

There is a bright spot—CDOT says impaired driving deaths are down 15% compared to the same time last year.

Officials are reminding everyone to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or use a rideshare service to get home safely.
