Seven Republican Law Makers Ask for Election Investigation-House Speaker Calls it a ‘Dangerous Stunt’

A group of Republican Representatives yesterday called for the formation of a special committee on election integrity to investigate and respond to unfounded allegations related to the 2020 Colorado General Election.

The Representatives also called for an independent audit of the Dominion software and equipment used across Colorado in the 2020 General Election.

Republican Representative Kevin Van Winkle of Highlands Ranch said in a press release, “Free and fair elections are vital to keeping our Republic and it’s imperative to move expeditiously on this matter, answer lingering questions, and restore confidence in the election process for the people of Colorado.”

Republican Representative Dave Williams of Colorado Springs added, “Given the fact that Dominion Voting Systems is headquartered in Colorado and that legitimate concerns regarding election fraud have been raised by President Donald J. Trump, it should be a priority of the General Assembly to put to rest all doubt in the integrity of our elections and push to decertify any results if overwhelming fraud in found.”

The press release was signed by 7 Republican State Representatives, including House District 60 Representative-Elect Ron Hanks.

Colorado election officials—including Republican county clerks—have pointed to the state’s proven track record of election security that has served as a model for other states, and federal judges have dismissed allegations by President Trump that the election was stolen from him.

House Speaker KC Becker quickly dismissed the request, accusing the 7 Republicans of trafficking in “debunked conspiracy theories” saying, “It is disappointing to see a few fringe members of the minority traffic in debunked conspiracy theories, it isn’t surprising given their steadfast allegiance to President Trump and his continued efforts to undermine our democracy.  Colorado, as we always have, will investigate any legitimate reports of voter fraud, but this request is nothing more than a dangerous stunt aimed at eroding trust in our elections.”
