Construction is officially underway on infrastructure for the South Ark Neighborhood, a project the City of Salida says marks a significant step toward expanding workforce housing and essential infrastructure in the community.

As construction gets underway, access to the nearby open space will be temporarily closed. City officials say the closures are necessary due to heavy equipment, active construction zones, and open trenches, which present safety concerns for the public.

The City emphasized that the closures are temporary and intended to protect both workers and visitors during the construction phase. Once work is complete, the affected areas will be fully restored and trail improvements will be added.

The disc golf course area will remain open and accessible during most of the construction period. Visitors can reach it through an access point off County Road 104.

The project is supported through a combination of state grants, local partnerships, and City funding. The City of Salida received two $2 million grants from the State of Colorado. In addition, Chaffee County and Colorado Mountain College have each committed up to $1 million to help support the effort.

The City of Salida has also contributed $1.25 million from its Housing Fund, which is funded through lodging tax revenues. City leaders say the investment will help expand housing opportunities for the local workforce while improving key infrastructure in the area.
