Chaffee County Woman Charged With Attempted Murder After Suicide Attempt

More details have been released concerning the Chaffee County woman being charged with attempted first-degree murder after a one-vehicle car crash Wednesday afternoon.

28-year-old Phuong Nu Hoang Dong Nguyen of Nathrop was driving on County Road 321 near Mt. Princeton Hot Springs when her car went off a cliff and down a steep ravine. A 5-year-old was also in the car. Both were rescued by and transported to Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The 5-year-old was released to a guardian.

Nguyen was taken to the Chaffee County Detention Center and booked on attempted first-degree murder.  

The arrest affidavit states that she told sheriff’s deputies that she believed that her husband was cheating on her and so she intentionally drove her car off the cliff. Nguyen’s daughter was in her lap at the time of the crash. 

Nguyen will appear in court for a bond hearing June 10.
