Buena Vista, CO – Feel the sun on your face and the wind in your hair as Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) launches its much-anticipated Trishaw Program in Buena Vista. After several years of building the program and training dedicated volunteer pilots, CCPH is excited to finally bring these rides to the community. These scenic, community-based bike rides are designed especially for adults aged 55 and older, offering a safe, joyful way to reconnect with the outdoors and experience the beauty of Chaffee County. Each ride lasts about one hour and includes a sweet treat; yes, ice cream or a snow cone is part of the adventure!

The program serves older adults living in the Buena Vista area and is designed to be both accessible and convenient. A trishaw is a specially designed, electric-assist pedicab built with accessibility in mind, featuring a comfortable front passenger seat with no-step entry and a removable base to accommodate individuals with limited mobility.

Trishaw rides are powered by trained volunteer “pilots” who complete comprehensive training to ensure a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for every rider. The pilot rides from behind, allowing them to easily monitor riders’ well-being and engage in conversation, while passengers enjoy unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape. The program offers free bike rides for older adults, creating opportunities for fresh air, social connection, and joyful time outdoors.

Riders can be picked up directly from their homes and returned safely after their outing, or they can choose to meet their pilot at the BV Community Center, making participation easy, flexible, and welcoming for all. Whether you or a loved one are looking for fresh air, meaningful connection, or a unique way to explore the community, CCPH’s Trishaw Program offers a memorable and uplifting experience.

To schedule a ride, contact Molly Bischoff at 970-309-9145 or Aubrey Tamietti at 719-429-8823. Our friendly pilots are ready to take you on a ride filled with fresh air, connection, and a little something sweet.
