Construction is officially underway on the South Ark Neighborhood infrastructure project, marking what City of Salida officials call a major step toward expanding workforce housing and essential infrastructure in the community.

As work begins, access to nearby open space areas will be temporarily closed due to safety concerns. City officials say the presence of heavy equipment and open trenches makes the closures necessary to protect both workers and the public.

The impacted areas will be fully restored once construction is complete, with additional trail improvements planned as part of the project. The nearby disc golf course will remain open and accessible for most of the construction period, with entry available via County Road 104.

The project is being funded through a combination of state grants, local partnerships, and city resources. Salida secured two $2 million grants from the state, while Chaffee County and Colorado Mountain College have each committed up to $1 million. The City of Salida has also contributed $1.25 million from its Housing Fund, which is supported by lodging tax revenues.

City leaders say the investment reflects a collaborative effort to address housing needs and support long-term community growth.
