Winter Weather Travel Alert

Winter weather will impact driving in Colorado for the busiest travel week of the year.

The Colorado Department of Transportation reminds drivers to heed weather forecasts and anticipate heavier than normal traffic over the next week. More importantly, travelers should be aware that quick, steady accumulations of snow will likely cause highway safety closures.

A storm system will move in tonight and dump over a foot of snow in parts of the state. The central mountains could see 6 to 10 inches, 3 to 5 for the Arkansas Valley. Saguache and Westcliffe are expecting 1 to 3 inches. North and northeast Colorado will see up to 14 inches by Tuesday afternoon.

Travel will become hazardous.  Travel out of Denver on I 70, 76 and 25 will be next to impossible.

Flights out of DIA and Colorado Springs are also being affected by weather.

CDOT recommends delaying travel throughout the state until Wednesday.
