Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly this weekend as winter weather moves into the region. Motorists should prepare for slick, snow-covered roads that could make driving difficult and dangerous, especially in mountain areas and along major corridors.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is reminding drivers that all commercial vehicles are required to carry chains during the winter months. In addition, CDOT may activate the Passenger Vehicle Chain Law, which would require all vehicles—including all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive—to use chains or approved alternate traction devices while traveling on affected roadways.
Beyond hazardous road conditions, travelers should also brace for a sharp and sudden drop in temperatures, increasing the risk of icy surfaces and vehicle issues.
Drivers are urged to monitor weather forecasts, check road conditions before departing, and carry proper winter safety equipment. If travel is not essential, consider delaying plans until conditions improve. Staying prepared and informed could make all the difference this weekend.
