Crews are battling at least two active wildfires sparked by lightning near Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, prompting the evacuation of campers and park staff.

The fires have already burned more than 1,600 acres, with one blaze near the south entrance of the park and another near the north rim. Both are being fueled by dry conditions and rugged terrain.

The Colorado State Patrol has been called in to assist with evacuation efforts. As a result, Highway 347 is closed at its junction with Highway 50 to support firefighting operations and protect public safety.

Park visitors and area residents are urged to follow all evacuation orders and road closures, and to stay clear of the area as firefighting crews continue their efforts. More updates will be provided as the situation develops.
