Wildfire Update: Thursday, August 20, 2020

The Grizzly Creek Fire is now listed at just over 28,000 acres with 4 percent containment. 

I 70 through Glenwood Canyon remains closed in both directions due to fire activity.  Detours will continue to bring motorist through our area on U.S. 24, Highway 285 and Highway 50.   

The Pine Gulch Fire burning 18-miles north of Grand Junction has grown to 125,000 acres and is now the second largest wildfire in state history.   Containment is at 14 percent. 

The Cameron Peak Fire is burning in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest near Cameron Pass and Chambers lake, is listed today at 16,000 acres.   

The Williams Fork Fire in the Arapaho National Forest in Grand County 15 miles northwest of Fraser, CO., has grown to over 6,700 acres with 3 percent containment.   

Several smaller fires have popped up in the last couple of days in Colorado.   

Hazy and smokey conditions continue in our area.  The National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert.   

A Red Flag Fire Warning is effect for today due to low relative humidity, gusty winds and dry lightning. 

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions exist that could lead to extreme fire behavior.
