Red Flag Fire Warning: Fire Restrictions Tighten

A Red Flag Fire Warning is effect for today due to low relative humidity, gusty winds and dry lightning.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions exist that could lead to extreme fire behavior.

Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze has issued a press release saying, “Due to continuous drying conditions coupled with several wildfires burning in the state which have depleted firefighting resources, the unincorporated lands of Chaffee County will move back into Stage 2 Fire Restrictions.”

Stage 2 restrictions prohibit all open flames, including any type of open burning, fireworks, exploding targets and charcoal grills.  Gas grills are allowed as long as the flame can be shut off with a valve.

Also effective immediately, the Bureau of Land Management has implemented Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in Chaffee, Fremont and Lake Counties.  Stage 1 restrictions prohibit building a campfire except within agency provided fire rings in developed recreations sites.

BLM lands in Park County are under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions.

The San Isabel National Forest is anticipated to move back into fire restrictions soon.
