A wildfire is actively burning near Illinois Creek, just off Gunnison County Road 742, according to the Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office. The fire is currently estimated at 5 acres, and firefighting crews are on scene working to contain the blaze.
All individuals who were in the area at the time of the fire have been safely evacuated, and no injuries have been reported.
As of now, there is no estimate for containment, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area northwest of the Taylor Park Trading Post while crews work.
Cottonwood Pass remains open at this time.
