Middle school students across the Upper Arkansas Valley are invited to apply for the National Civics Bee, a nonpartisan competition designed to inspire young people to engage in civics and community problem-solving.

The competition is open to students from public, private, charter, and home schools. Created and organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the event is being coordinated locally by the League of Women Voters and the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce.

Students enter the competition by submitting a four-paragraph essay that proposes a creative idea to improve their community. Essays are judged on content, originality, and understanding of civic principles.

The top-scoring essay finalists will advance to a live quiz-style competition, scheduled to take place in Buena Vista on April 26.

Students and families interested in participating can find the application portal and additional details at lwvchaffeecounty.org
