A paddleboarding outing turned deadly Friday evening at Eleven Mile State Park after a sudden wind storm swept through the area, throwing three people and a dog into the water. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the incident occurred Friday afternoon.
- Two individuals wearing life jackets were rescued safely
- A third paddleboarder, not wearing a life jacket, was recovered deceased after more than 10 hours of searching
- The dog also drowned and its body was recovered
- Hartsel Fire and the Park County Sheriff’s Office assisted in recovery efforts
- The victim’s name has not yet been released
CPW emphasized the importance of always wearing a life jacket during water activities and reminded the public that weather conditions on Colorado waters can change rapidly, turning a calm day dangerous in moments.
