A traffic stop by the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of a man wanted out of Douglas County and the recovery of suspected counterfeit money.
This past Sunday, a Chaffee County deputy made a speeding violation traffic stop on Highway 285 near Nathrop. The driver was identified as 49-year-old Donald Engler, who claimed he was a construction worker in Buena Vista.
The deputy learned that Engler was wanted out of Douglas County and was taken into custody. Douglas County charges included possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen ID documents and special offender deadly weapons.
Engler was found to have in his possession 20 grams of suspected methamphetamine, five counterfeit $20 bills, multiple glass smoking pipes and several marijuana containers.
Engler’s driver’s license was also suspended for child support nonpayment. He was booked into the Chaffee County Detention Center and is being held on a $5,000 bond.
