Chase Mikesell, a deputy with the Teller County Sheriff’s Office and the son of Sheriff Jason Mikesell, has been charged with driving under the influence following a crash over the weekend.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the incident occurred on Highway 24 at the Divide Junction, where a vehicle stopped at a construction zone was rear-ended by Deputy Mikesell.

A breath test administered at the scene showed a blood alcohol content of 0.15, nearly double the legal limit of 0.08.

Mikesell faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol (excessive alcohol content), careless driving, and possession of a weapon while under the influence.

Sheriff Jason Mikesell, who currently serves as Teller County Sheriff, has also announced his candidacy for Governor of Colorado in 2026.
