A man accused of opening fire on another driver during a violent road-rage encounter along Highway 285 near Conifer is now facing multiple attempted murder charges, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the area Tuesday night after reports of a vehicle crash. When they arrived, they discovered the passenger of a black SUV suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators quickly determined the crash was connected to a road-rage confrontation that escalated into gunfire.
On Wednesday, sheriff’s deputies identified a suspect in the case: 56-year-old Matthew Impellitteri. He was taken into custody at his home, located not far from where the shooting happened.
Impellitteri is now charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder. The shooting victim remains in critical condition as the investigation continues.
