The Salida Police Department has issued an alert about several active scams targeting local residents, urging the community to stay vigilant and protect themselves from financial fraud.
According to the department, scammers are impersonating law enforcement officers, utility companies, and even City of Salida employees and title companies in convincing efforts to steal money or personal information.
⚠️ Common Scam Tactics to Watch Out For:
- Phone calls claiming to be from law enforcement requesting payment for fines or donations — this is a scam. Law enforcement will never ask for payment over the phone.
- Text messages or emails about unpaid CDOT tolls or parking citations, followed by instructions to purchase gift cards — this is a scam. Never pay anything with gift cards.
- Calls from supposed utility companies (e.g., Xcel Energy) threatening to shut off service unless immediate payment is made — hang up and call the utility directly to verify.
- Emails impersonating City of Salida employees or title companies, using real letterheads and convincing language to request wire transfers. Verify all email addresses — official City emails will end in
