A new area code is coming to western and northern Colorado. The Colorado Public Utilities Commission has announced the introduction of the 748 area code, which will overlay the existing 970 region to meet growing demand for new phone numbers.

- Starting July 7, new phone numbers may be assigned the 748 area code.
- Full-scale rollout of the new area code is expected later in 2025.

The 748 area code will serve the same region as 970, including:
- Aspen
- Breckenridge
- Durango
- Estes Park
- Fort Collins
- Glenwood Springs
- Grand Junction
- Greeley
- Loveland
- Steamboat Springs
- Vail
- And other surrounding communities

- Current phone numbers will not change
- Ten-digit dialing (area code + phone number) will be required for all local calls
