Phase 1 construction to begin Monday 6/8
Salida Mountain Trails (SMT) and City of Salida Parks and Recreation are excited to announce that construction for Phase 1 of the Salida Bike Park will begin Monday, June 8, marking a major milestone for the long-anticipated community project. SMT has hired Santa Fe-based Rocket Ramps to lead the initial construction, which will completely redesign the existing bike park pilot project to improve flow, progression, and overall rider experience. Rocket Ramps specializes in professionally built jump lines, incorporating durable, prefabricated features to provide consistent takeoffs—critical for developing skills—while also reducing maintenance needs to improve the park’s long-term sustainability.
“Rocket Ramps is one of the best bike park builders in the country, and we’re stoked to bring their expertise to Salida,” said Jon Terbush, executive director of Salida Mountain Trails. “This first phase will transform the current park into something more polished, progressive, and fun, while laying a strong foundation for the larger bike park vision the community helped shape. To allow crews to safely move heavy machinery and materials into the project area, trail access immediately surrounding the bike park will be temporarily closed for the first few days of construction. People will still be able to access the trail network using detours around the closure (Spiral Drive, Chili Peppers/Burnpile, or County Road 177 to Rise-N-Shine). The Salida Bike Park is a partnership between SMT and City of Salida Parks and Recreation. Phase 1 construction will enhance and expand the pilot project to provide two types of experiences geared toward beginner- and intermediate-level riders: progressive jump lines, and skills features (e.g. drops). Phase 1 will also improve user flow in and around the park, and lay the groundwork for future development toward a broader concept vision created in collaboration with IMBA Trail Solutions and informed by public feedback. “This project represents the next evolution of Salida as a trail community,” Terbush said.
“We’re excited to put shovels in the ground and start building something that will benefit current and future riders for many years to come. Excited to start the first step of this long-term project and to add more opportunities and fun to our IMBA trail town trail network and community,’ said City of Salida Parks, Trails and Open Space Supervisor Zach Ryerson.
SMT is now seeking donations to bring the full Bike Park vision to life. To learn more about the project and make a donation, visit salidamountaintrails.org/bikepark
