Salida Middle School students are participating in their annual Water Walk today, hauling water from the Arkansas River to the top of Tenderfoot Mountain. Each student fills a 5-gallon container at the F Street Bridge and hikes it uphill, simulating the journey many people around the world make daily for clean water.
The walk teaches students the value of water conservation and raises awareness about global water insecurity. In 2021, the school’s sixth-grade class raised over $9,000 to support the drilling of a well in South Sudan, helping provide clean water and hygiene education.
