On October 12th, 2025, at about 6:00PM the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a multi residential structure in Poncha Springs, CO (Chaffee County) for a report of a cold theft/ burglary. Upon arrival it was learned that one tenant was alleging that another tenant had illegally entered their residential area of the structure through a window and stole currency. It was further learned that the suspect, identified as Taylor Jeffrey Appleton, age 37 of Poncha Springs, was currently in his residential area of the structure.
Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were familiar with Appleton due to a separate earlier investigation and knew he was wanted on multiple felony warrants. Deputies attempted to contact Appleton but he initially barricaded himself in a room he occupied. After a short standoff deputies were able to take Appleton into custody without any injuries to him or deputies.
Appleton was transported to the Chaffee County Detention Facility where he will be held on two Felony Fugitive of Justice warrants out of Texas with a total cash bond of $60,000.00 (Impersonating a Public Servant and Using a Credit or Debit Card Without the Consent of the Card Holder). Appleton will also be held on a $10,000 cash bond for the following local charges:
Second Degree Burglary a class 4 Felony
Theft a class 1 Petty Offense
Obstructing Government Operations a class 2 Misdemeanor
Resisting Arrest a class 2 Misdemeanor
Appleton is considered innocent until/ unless proven guilty in a court of law.
