The Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA) is hosting its 11th annual photo contest for nature photos taken in the Upper Arkansas River Valley, as an opportunity for local photographers to share their creative work and support GARNA. Photos must be from within the Upper Arkansas Valley Watershed, Leadville to Canon City.
The theme this year is “Natural Beauty in the Arkansas River Valley”. The four categories are:
- Natural abstractions (Natural textures, shapes, patterns, etc. that create abstract art)
- Wildlife in Action (Mammals, birds, fish, or insects in their natural habitats)
- Nature at night (Moonlit landscapes, the night sky, nocturnal animals, etc.)
- Seasons in Focus (Spring, summer, autumn, or winter in the wild)
Participants can begin submitting photos now through November 2 at www.gogophotocontest.com/garna. Voting for the People’s Choice award and judging by a panel of professional photographers takes place from November 3 through November 12. GARNA will use the winning photos to produce the annual photo calendar and notecards that support GARNA programs including environmental education, public lands stewardship, and sustainability work. Category winners receive a calendar or notecard set.
