The Friday morning light brought the Salida Spartan varsity cross country team into the focus in Alamosa as they took part in the first Alamosa Invitational Cross Country meet.

The meet was split, with varsity races being run at Cole Park and the JV races were held at Alamosa High School.

Unfortunately, we were only able to be present for one of the sites, but check out the pictures from Salida on the course!

The Salida girls would finish in 4th with 51 team points, one back of Centauri. Pagosa Springs would finish in 2nd with Alamosa dominating the home meet.

Individually, Lanee Dzuira finished in 5th with a time of 21:58. Fern Clark finished in 15th with Kaylynn Shaffer and Ella Haynes finishing 18th and 19th respectively. Lane Baker’s 27th place finish and Kate Adams 31st place finish rounded out the Spartan girls.

On the boys side, the team would capture 3rd with 44 team points behind host Alamosa and Gunnison.

Elijah Wilcox took home 4th place with Kuper Banghart not far behind in 7th. Izayah Baxter took 12th, Tristan Jackson 28th and Jack Landry finished in 31st.

The Spartans will be back in Alamosa this weekend for the 2020 Joe Vigil Invitational on Friday, September 11th. You can listen in to Eagle Country 104 and The Peak 92.3 for updates from the event!
