Colorado is beginning 2026 with several new laws now in effect, covering consumer protections, health care, reproductive rights, and gun show regulations.
One of the changes includes the Protections Against Deceptive Pricing Practices law. The legislation prohibits businesses from advertising prices unless the maximum total cost is clearly disclosed. It also restricts landlords from requiring tenants to pay certain fees and charges.
Another new law, the Medical Necessity Determination Insurance Coverage Act, requires health insurance coverage for mental health and substance use disorder treatment to be no less comprehensive than coverage for physical illnesses.
Voters also approved a significant change during the 2024 general election with Amendment 79. The measure adds a constitutional amendment recognizing the right to an abortion in Colorado and prohibits health insurance companies from excluding coverage for abortion services.
In addition, new regulations affecting gun shows are now in place. Gun show promoters must submit a security plan to local law enforcement, carry liability insurance, and implement required security measures. The law also prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from attending a gun show unless accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or legal guardian.
State officials say the new laws are aimed at increasing transparency, expanding health care protections, and improving public safety.
