Barry Morphew, the man accused of killing his wife Suzanne Morphew, is back in jail on a $10 million cash only bond after violating bail conditions.
Morphew’s bond was adjusted yesterday following a recent hit-and-run in Denver. Even if Morphew can post bond, he will not be allowed to leave the San Luis Valley.
The judge yesterday told Morphew that he has shown no respect for court orders. The defense pushed for home confinement with no exceptions.
The District Attorney’s office asked for the $10 million bond citing that Morphew’s recent behavior was a pattern of conduct with no respect for the conditions the court has set.
The increased bail carries other complications. If Morphew is able to come up with the full bond amount, it could risk the judge’s earlier determination that he didn’t have the financial means to afford his attorneys. That decision provided him with court-appointed lawyers paid for by the state.
If the court-appointed lawyers are removed, new lawyers would need to review over 845,000 pages of documents, according to 9News analyst, Scott Robinson. That would mean a further delay in the case of possible years.
Morphew’s next court hearing is scheduled for November 3rd.
