The La Plata Fire is burning southwest of Leadville, west of Twin Lakes, and south of Highway 82 near the Chaffee and Lake County line.
As of today, the fire has grown to 54 acres with 0% containment. The blaze remains entirely on National Forest Service land, and no evacuations or pre-evacuations have been issued at this time.
Both air and ground crews are actively working to contain the fire. A Colorado State Type 3 Incident Management Team has assumed command of fire operations.
Officials say the fire is human caused. The public is asked to remain clear of the area to allow firefighters to focus on the incident.
