A 35-year-old kayaker died Friday following an accident on the Arkansas River just above Johnson’s Village, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).
Authorities say two kayakers capsized while navigating the river. One was able to swim to shore, while the second was found unconscious in the water. A bystander followed in their own boat and successfully pulled the individual to shore, but CPR efforts were unsuccessful. The kayaker was pronounced dead at the scene.
CPW reports that both individuals were wearing proper safety gear at the time of the incident and described the situation as “a tragic accident.”
The victim’s identity has not been released as of this time.
