John Stuart Bolton, 75, of Buena Vista passed away on April 13th at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. John was born in Stillwater, OK, on April 19, 1949, to LaFern (Moore) Bolton and John F. “Jack” Bolton. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Roberta (Shannon) Bolton of Buena Vista, son Christopher Andrew Bolton of Springtown, TX, daughter Heidi (Cofer) Atha of Buena Vista, daughter Michelle Cofer of Canon City, and son Mark Cofer of Bonney Lake, WA. John is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Cameron, Angela, Mallory, Maranda, Evan, Noel, Max, Preston, and Madison, as well as 14 great-grandchildren. John’s father moved to Leadville, CO, in 1950 then to Climax, Colorado in 1952, where the family lived for the next several years, moving to Buena Vista in1959. John was a 1967 graduate of Buena Vista High School and a lifelong supporter of all BVHS Demon activities. John was a proud Army veteran, serving at the Demilitarized Zone in South Korea from 1968 to 1970. He was also a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars as well as the American Legion. From 1999 to 2006, John served the citizens of Buena Vista as a Trustee on the Town Council. His dedication to, and love of, BV was unmatched. He was well known to locals and always had time to chat with neighbors at the store, bank, or post office.
John never met a stranger, and was well known for his baritone laugh and easy demeanor. He had a million jokes and even more stories. He was an avid historian with a wealth of knowledge of historical local, state, national, and international events with a deep understanding of how they effect our world today. John was also a highly skilled carpenter, working for many years as a framer and finisher. He used his skill to completely remodel his and Roberta’s home of 40 years in Buena Vista. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, as well as a great friend who will be sorely missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
