More than 36,000 people filed for unemployment benefits in Colorado last week as jobless claims have surged back to springtime levels.
New claims for state unemployment rose for the seventh week in a row hitting 19,000 for the week ending December 5. That’s the highest total since the first week in May.
The spike comes after state officials last month updated Colorado’s color-coded Covid-19 dial and enacted tighter restrictions on businesses in counties moved to Level Red, including the entire Front Range.
