The Lowline Fire burning in Gunnison County has grown to nearly 2,000 acres. The fire, which started July 16th 14 miles northwest of Gunnison is 55% contained.
Command of the Lowline Fire has been given back to the Gunnison Ranger District. The district will be in charge of the long-term firefighting strategy “until the Lowline Fire is no longer considered a re-ignition risk,” officials said, adding the strategy could remain in place for the next several months.
