In response to severe fire danger, prolonged drought conditions, and increasing demand on wildfire resources throughout Colorado, the South Arkansas Fire Protection District Board of Directors has approved funding to staff a Type 6 wildland fire engine during periods of elevated fire danger.
The program will place trained firefighters and equipment in service and will be immediately available for response within the South Arkansas Fire Protection District.
When not responding to incidents, personnel will conduct wildfire preparedness activities including patrols in high-risk areas, defensible space assessments, pre-incident planning, water supply verification and public education efforts.
