The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a scam targeting local residents involving a caller impersonating law enforcement.
According to officials, multiple reports have been received of an individual posing as the undersheriff and contacting citizens by phone. The caller falsely claims the recipient has an outstanding warrant and then demands payment to resolve it.
Authorities emphasize that this is a scam. Law enforcement agencies do not call individuals to demand payment or request financial information over the phone.
The sheriff’s office is urging community members to avoid sharing any personal or financial information with unsolicited callers. Anyone who receives a suspicious call is encouraged to hang up immediately and report the incident to local authorities.
