The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will begin offering free income tax return preparation help starting February 7 through April 13.
Services will be available Mondays and Saturdays at the Salida Methodist Church, and appointments are required. Salida-area residents can schedule an appointment by calling 719-431-4578. Buena Vista residents should call 719-293-1857 to arrange assistance.
The free tax preparation service is available to eligible taxpayers with a household income of $63,000 or less. Program organizers note that not all taxpayers qualify and encourage individuals to call ahead to confirm eligibility and appointment availability.
The VITA program is staffed by trained volunteers and is designed to help ensure accurate returns while easing the cost of tax preparation for qualifying households.
