BUENA VISTA — Residents forced to evacuate due to the Mountain View Fire were allowed to return home on Sunday after crews achieved 100% containment of the blaze late Friday afternoon.
The fire, which burned approximately 60 acres and destroyed two homes, is now under investigation. Fire crews remained on scene through the weekend to mop up remaining hotspots, but the incident was officially terminated Sunday afternoon.
The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office says fire investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire, and it is currently being treated as a criminal investigation until proven otherwise. Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, limited information will be released to the public at this time.
Authorities thank the community for their cooperation during evacuations and continue to urge caution during heightened fire danger conditions.
