The Buena Vista Public Library has been awarded a $37,500 from the El Pomar Foundation in support of its renovation and expansion project.
“The recognition by the El Pomar Foundation is an honor. El Pomar is a pillar of library philanthropy,” said Library Director Cecilia LaFrance. The Library had previously received a grant from El Pomar in 2005.
The El Pomar Foundation is one of the largest and oldest private foundations in Colorado, contributing approximately $25 million annually through grants in the areas of arts & culture, civic & community initiatives, education, health, and human services, as well as community stewardship and leadership development programs to support Colorado nonprofit organizations. Spencer and Julie Penrose founded El Pomar in 1937 with the mission to enhance, encourage and promote the current and future well-being of the people of Colorado.
The donation will be applied towards the Library’s $4.5 million dollar expansion project. The construction project includes renovation of the first floor and an addition of a 4,300 sq ft second floor on the northern portion of the Library.
The project is currently on schedule for completion in early spring of 2026. The construction crews have removed the roof and are installing the elevator shaft and steel columns to support the second story. Installation of floor trusses and framing of the second floor will occur in the next couple of weeks.
During construction, the Library is operating with reduced services at 27900 County Rd. 319 in Buena Vista.
