Decker Fire Morning Update [Oct. 5]

Decker Fire DC-10A DC-10 drops retardant on the Decker Wildfire.

The Decker Fire was less active yesterday than previous days. Helicopters were able to fly and drop water over the fire for most of the day.

Crews made good progress on construction of both dozer and handlines.

More resources arrived on the fire yesterday.  There are now 730 people working the Decker Fire.

A Red Flag Fire Warning has been issued for today. Strong winds are predicted, gusting to 45 mph.  This could increase fire behavior.

The Decker Fire is listed at 5,824 acres with 5 percent containment.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Department has issued a pre-evacuation notice for Swissvale, Wellsville, Pine Ridge and Howard.

A public meeting with the Type I Fire Team and County officials will take place this morning at the Salida SteamPlant beginning at 10 am.
