Chaffee County Two-Week Covid-19 Positivity Rate Climbs to 5%

Chaffee County Public Health is reporting 10 new Covid-19 cases in the last 7 days, 42 in the last 14 days, for a 2-week positivity rate of 5 percent.

Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center has no Covid-19 patients and is operating at 64 percent capacity.

There are currently 102 known active cases of Covid-19 in the San Luis Valley including 57 in Alamosa County and 5 in Saguache County.

Chaffee County Public Health will update the local Public Health Order tomorrow to align with the recent state of Colorado updated Public Health Order. The order now allows vaccinated individuals to go without any type of face covering in most settings.  However, any individual who is unvaccinated is still encouraged to wear a face covering within indoor spaces where members of different households are present.

Mask mandates are still in place for schools and childcare centers, congregate care facilities, prisons and jails, along with hospitals and health care facilities.

A walk-up Covid-19 vaccination clinic is scheduled for June 11th from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Salida Middle School.  No appointment is necessary.

Vaccinated Coloradans are automatically entered into the Colorado Comeback Cash Vaccine drawing, with the opportunity to win $1 million, for a total of $5 million in prizes to be given out. Each week, for five weeks, one winner will be drawn. The first drawing is tomorrow.

In addition, Governor Polis announced yesterday that the state will be giving $50,000 scholarships to randomly selected Coloradans between 12 and 17 years of age who have received at least one vaccine dose.

A special meeting of the Chaffee County Board of Health will be held on Monday to discuss event capacity limits.
