The fifth “renewal” of the Great Colorado vs Texas Tomato War will return on Saturday, August 29th between 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm at The Meadows located at 14998 County Road 350, Buena Vista, CO 81211. The Buena Vista Optimist Club is the organizer and benefactor of the event.
Individuals and teams representing the states of Colorado and Texas will toss tons of well-ripened tomatoes at each other, all to benefit the Optimist Club which supports over 30 youth organizations and activities in Chaffee County.
This kid-friendly event includes music and entertainment, food, Bloody Marys and Beer Garden with kid’s tomato games and a Salida Circus performance.
According to the Tomato War website, as many as 500 warriors participated in the original “war” at Twin Lakes during a 12-year run that began in 1982. In recent years the event has been revived as a fundraiser.
Registration and schedule is available at TomatoWar.org. Early pre-registration online is $40 adults, $45 at the event and $30 for children 10 and under, $35 at the event.
