New estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show that Colorado’s population has surpassed 6 million residents, marking a year-over-year increase of 0.92 percent.

Governor Jared Polis welcomed the milestone, pointing to the state’s continued appeal. “The secret is out, Colorado is the best place to live, work, play, start a family, and grow a business,” Polis said Tuesday. “The numbers don’t lie, and I am excited to see Colorado’s population grow despite trends across the nation.”

While the growth highlights Colorado’s popularity, it also underscores ongoing concerns about responsible development. Housing affordability remains a major challenge, with workforce housing in short supply and household incomes failing to keep pace with rising home prices. Water availability is another growing concern, as continued population growth adds pressure to already strained water resources.

State and local leaders continue to balance Colorado’s economic and population growth with the need for sustainable planning, infrastructure investment, and long-term resource management.
