Colorado’s National Parks are expected to remain open with limited staffing as the federal government shuts down.

According to the Department of Interior’s National Park Service contingency plan, parks will continue to allow public access despite the lapse in appropriations. However, about 64% of National Park Service staff—nearly 15,000 employees—will be furloughed.

During the shutdown, visitor centers and other facilities that can be locked during non-business hours will be closed. Essential operations and law enforcement will continue, but services will be limited.
