Jon Hallford, the co-owner of Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison on state charges related to the abuse of a corpse. The sentence follows a shocking investigation that uncovered nearly 200 improperly stored, decomposing bodies at the facility.
In addition to the state sentence, Hallford has already received a 20-year prison term on federal charges connected to the case.
His wife and business partner, Carie Hallford, is also facing state charges. She is scheduled to be sentenced in April.
The case has drawn widespread attention and outrage, highlighting serious failures in funeral home oversight and raising concerns about the treatment of families who trusted the business with their loved ones’ remains.
