Salida, CO — The City of Salida has been awarded $50,000 from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) in recognition of the City’s early adoption of new state-required housing code language within its recently approved Land Use Code.

This updated code allows developers who include 50% or more affordable units in their projects to participate in an expedited review process, an important tool aimed at reducing barriers and accelerating the creation of much-needed affordable housing in Salida.

The awarded funds will help support the City’s continued efforts to increase affordable housing opportunities for residents by streamlining development pathways and reinforcing policies that encourage housing affordability.

“Salida is committed to building a community where people who work here can afford to live here,” said Bill Almquist, Community Development Director for the City of Salida. “This award supports our proactive approach to aligning local policy with statewide housing goals and ensuring that affordability remains a core priority.”

While the City cannot use the funding for construction purposes, the City will use the funding to advance ongoing initiatives that strengthen housing accessibility and promote equitable growth throughout the community.
