On 06-12-25 at approximately 5:51PM Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ryland Geske located a motor vehicle near the intersection of CR 306 and Highway 24 in Buena Vista that he identified as a stolen vehicle out of Alamosa, CO.

Deputy Geske completed a traffic stop on the vehicle along Highway 24 in Buena Vista but after the vehicle came to rest the driver of the vehicle, identified as William McCoy age 47 from Del Norte, CO, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputy Geske was able to apprehend McCoy who allegedly assaulted Deputy Geske as he attempted to gain compliance. McCoy was transported to the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center where he and Deputy Geske were treated for minor injuries.

During a search of the vehicle McCoy was driving an open container of alcohol, an open container of marijuana, approximately 1.9 grams of methamphetamine, a debit card not belonging to McCoy and several items of drug paraphernalia were found.

After being treated for the minor injuries McCoy was booked into the Chaffee County Detention Facility and held on a $50,000.00 cash bond for 2nd Degree Assault on a Peace Officer (Class 4 Felony), 2nd Degree Motor Vehicle Theft (Class 4 Felony), Drove Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, Drugs or Both (Class 1 Traffic Misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (Class 2 Misdemeanor), Obstructing a Peace Officer (Class 2 Misdemeanor), Criminal Possession of a Financial Transaction Device (Class 2 Misdemeanor), Possession of Less Than 4 Grams of Methamphetamine (Class 1 Drug Misdemeanor), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Drug Petty Offense), Open Container in a Motor Vehicle (Traffic Infraction) and Open Marijuana Container in a Motor Vehicle (Traffic Infraction).

McCoy was also arrested on two outstanding arrest warrants: $3,000.00 bond out of Alamosa County for Domestic Violence Assault and $100,000.00 bond from Alamosa County for 1st Degree Burglary, 2nd Degree Assault Strangulation, Sex Assault, Criminal Impersonation, False Imprisonment and Violation of Bail or Bond Conditions. The total bond amount for all charges McCoy is being held on is $153,000.00. McCoy is considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
