As half a million motorcyclists gear up for the annual Sturgis Rally this weekend in South Dakota, many will travel through Colorado—prompting a safety reminder and enforcement effort from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).
CDOT is urging all riders to stay alert, ride sober, and wear a helmet during their travels. In coordination with the Colorado State Patrol and 56 local law enforcement agencies, CDOT will activate The Heat Is On Sturgis Rally DUI enforcement period now through August 12.
During this 13-day period, motorists can expect:
- Saturation patrols
- Sobriety checkpoints
- Increased law enforcement presence on roads and highways
The goal is to reduce impaired driving and keep all travelers—especially vulnerable motorcycle riders—safe on Colorado’s roads.
